Trojans hire new football coach

February 16, 2004

Leesburg- The Lee County Trojans have a new head football coach.

David Johnson was unanimously approved as the Trojans new coach in a specially called Board of Education meeting Monday night in Leesburg.

Johnson has spent the last two years as the defensive coordinator at Eufaula High school in Eufaula, Alabama.

During his stint there his teams went 21-3, won two region championships and made the state playoffs both years.

Prior to that Johnson was a coach in Luverne, Alabama for six years where he won a state championship.

David Johnson takes over a Lee County program that has won just two games the last two years.

He says the opportunity to rebuild a program from the ground up was a big reason for his interest in Lee County.

Johnson said "It's a chance to come in and build a program. It's a great community, great school, the administration and committee I interviewed for had some great insights on what they wanted from their coach and I felt like I could do all the things they asked,".

David  Johnson was selected from a pool of 110 applicants, he replaces Frank Vohun who resigned after two years at the helm of the Lee County program.
