Coffee Co.deaths prompt ATV bill

February 3, 2004

(Atlanta-AP) -- A bill introduced in the Georgia House would prevent children from riding all-terrain vehicles.

Five children ages ten to 13 died in fall in an ATV accident at a birthday party in Coffee County. An adult motorist crossed the center line and hit the ATV.

The bill introduced yesterday would require ATVs to carry license plates, putting them in the same category as motorcycles.

Children under 16 would therefore be banned from driving ATVs except on private property, and all drivers would have to wear helmets.
