Albany - Removing the word "evolution" from school curriculum would adversely change the way science and other subjects are taught according to Dougherty County's Science Supervisor.
State Superintendent Kathy Cox has proposed replacing the word "evolution" with "biological changes over time."
"What people don't realize is that evolution goes beyond biological change over time. Evolution happens in political systems, music, technology. So personally do I think it's a good idea - No," said Dr. Dorene Medlin, Science Supervisor.
Dr. Medlin says educators can teach evolution without discrediting Christian theology. Governor Sonny Perdue and Former President Jimmy Carter quickly spoke out against the proposed curriculum change.
The state school board is expected vote of the issue in May.
