Southwest Georgia United Way Awards top givers

February 2, 2004

Albany -- United Way of Southwest Georgia fell short of it's annual fund raising goal in 2003. Now they worry about meeting the needs of their member agencies in the area.

United Way handed out company awards to key contributors Monday. Their fund raising goal for the year was just over one and a half million dollars. They raised 96 percent of that goal, one-point-four million dollars. But that shortfall could impact the lives of many needy people in Southwest Georgia.

United Way of Southwest Georgia Chairman Mark Davis said "Those needs are not going to get any less. And with state and federal funding continuing to be cut, and more pressure put on the state to provide more services."

Dr. Anthony Parker, the President of Albany Technical College, was elected the Chairman of the board for United Way of Southwest Georgia for 2004.
