Skin needs some ultraviolet light

January 29, 2004

Albany- Avoiding sunlight as often as you can may not be as good for you as doctors thought.

That also applies to tanning beds. New research shows avoiding ultraviolet light from the sun or tanning beds may cause you to be vitamin D deficient.

We need conservative amounts of sunlight. Many tanning bed owners encourage clients to use protective lotions.

"Most of them have a COQ-10 in them which is an age defiar plus a moisturizer which will replenish all the vitamins and stuff into your body, plus give your body moisture," said Leah Bryant, the owner of New Dreams Lingerie and Tanning in Albany.

Our skin produces vitamin D through exposure to ultraviolet light. Vitamin D is important for bone strength.
