Albany -- People who help keep their Community clean were honored today. Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful gave out its annual Volunteer of the Year Awards.

Edith Pickard, her son Timothy, and the rest of their family cleaned up this drainage pond next to their home in the 200 block of Mitchell Avenue. Several times a week they take a net to the pond to clean up cans or paper thrown into the water.

Pickard said "I think it would be a wonderful idea if everybody would start pitching in and helping out. You have such a beautiful area here."

For her work cleaning up her neighborhood, Pickard was given the community individual volunteer of the year award by Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful.
