Valdosta- While Albany State will not open their season against Valdosta State, the annual south Georgia showdown will be the season opener for Chris Hatcher's Blazers.
The Blazers, who have made four straight trips to the NCAA D-II playoffs, start the 2004 season with two road games.
After their September 4th season opener at Albany State, Valdosta State plays their Gulf South Conference opener the next week at Ouachita Baptist.
The home opener will be the following week on September 18th against Harding with kickoff at seven o'clock in the newly renovated Bazemore-Hyder Stadium
The Bisons of Harding and Henderson State return to the Valdosta State schedule this season with Arkansas-Monticello and Arkansas Tech rotating off.
The Harding game is also one of only four games for the Blazers will play at home.
Delta State, West Alabama and Southern Arkansas are also coming to Valdosta State while the Blazers will travel to Central Arkansas, Henderson State, North Alabama and West Georgia.
Blazer fans may notice their team will play only ten regular season games for the first time since 1992.
That is because the NCAA D-II playoffs will expand to 24 teams this season and will start one week earlier.
