Colquitt County - An inmate escaped for only two hours from the Colquitt County Correctional Institution.
Thirty-year-old Zalmer J. Nichols was reported missing around three Wednesday afternoon from a work detail. Investigators found his prison clothes inside the governmental building in Moultrie where he was working as a trusty.
He was caught around five by an off duty police officer who saw the inmate sitting outside of a restaurant a mile from where he escaped. He was wearing baggy clothes.
Nichols has been serving time since 2000 for a Crisp County burglary, his tentative parole date was June of this year. He is being questioned.
