Staying close to home

January 26, 2004

Albany-- Darton College baseball coach Glenn Eames continues to keep local talent close to home by signing another area high school player to a scholarship this afternoon.

|Terrell Academy senior Brandon Ivey becomes the third player to sign with the Cavaliers for next season. The right handed pitcher went 8 and 4 last season for the Eagles with a 1.36 E.R.A. and 87 strikeouts.

Ivey has also been a key member of the starting rotation for Albany's Post 30 team the past two years. He says the opportunity to play alongside several of his friends while at the same time stay close to home played a big part in his decision.

"It will make me more comfortable because alot of them (the players) I played with at Post 30 and I played with some of them at Lee County so I know what to expect from them and that will make it easier to pitch," Ivey said.

The Darton Cavaliers start the 2004 season on February 5th against Wallace Community College.
