(Daytona Beach, Florida-AP) -- Albany's Nancy Lopez has been selected as the United States captain for golf's 2005 Solheim Cup matches.
LPGA commissioner Ty Votaw says there could be no better ambassador of the talent, heart and enthusiasm of the event than Lopez.
Lopez played in the first Solheim Cup in 1990, but never made another team.
She's won 48 tournaments during her Hall of Fame career.
Europe defeated the United States last year in Sweden 17 1/2 - 10 1/2.
The United States has never lost at home, and the 2005 matches will be played in September of that year at Crooked Stick in Carmel, Indiana.
That's where John Daly won the 1991 PGA Championship.
