Banks merging brings more access to customers

January 23, 2004

Albany- Regions Bank customers are about to have access to more bank branches and ATM's across part of the country.

Birmingham-based Regions is merging with Memphis-based Union Planters. The new Regions Financial Corporation will be the 12th largest bank holding company nationwide in terms of deposits.

The merger shouldn't cause anyone to lose their job.

"There probably will be some internal jobs downsized over time," said Luke Flatt, president and CEO of Regions Bank in Albany. "Not here in our area at all. None of our branches will be effected and none of our people who are here will be effected adversely."

Regions customers will now have branches in Missouri, Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa and Illinois. The merger will not affect any service to Regions customers.
