First Baptist may move to Lee

January 23, 2004

Albany-- The congregation will vote next Wednesday on whether to move to this sight on Oakland Plantation on Highway 82 past the mall. After considering 10 sites, the building committee recommended this one. < /STRONG>

"I don't think this is a major obstacle, moving from Albany to Lee County," said Building Comm. Chairman Don Barfield. "I think it's just a line on the paper, and that's the way our committee feels about it. We are trying to relocate our church where our members live."

First Baptist Church of Albany was founded in 1839, and has been at its downtown Albany location 162 years. Church leaders say its time for the church to relocate to where the people are.

If the congregation votes yes, the church will buy 20 acres and build a four million dollar church complex.
