Falcons add two more assistants

January 19, 2004

(Atlanta-AP) -- The Atlanta Falcons hired two experienced assistants today as the team's new defensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

Former Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Ed Donatell will become the top defensive assistant to new head coach Jim Mora.

He had a defense with the Packers that produced 116 turnovers over the last three years, the most of any team in the NFL.

The Falcons also hired Alex Gibbs as its offensive line coach.

Gibbs worked for the Denver Broncos as an assistant coach and offensive line coach over the last nine seasons, but he's worked mostly as a consultant to the team the last three seasons.

He also is a former University of Georgia assistant under coach Vince Dooley.

On offense, Gibbs will join new offensive coordinator Greg Knapp, and holdovers in running backs coach Ollie Wilson and wide receivers coach George Stewart.

Two other coaches were hired from San Francisco, where Mora was the defensive coordinator.

They are Chris Beake, who will be a linebackers coach, and Brett Maxie, who will serve as defensive backs coach.
