Albany -- Thursday marks the birthday of civil rights leader Dr.Martin Luther King Junior. Darton college commemorated his birth in a special program. Students who attended the event had a chance to hear spirituals and excerpts from Dr. King's most famous speeches.

For Rev. Joseph Howard, who performs King's oration all over Georgia, the experience has opened his eyes to the greatness of Dr. King's legacy."A lot of what goes into my presentation of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior is understanding his life his legacy and what the civil rights movement was all about," says Howard. "A modern day prophet was slain for a golbal community and the love of justice and hope."

WALB will cover a portion of Albany's King Celebration at the Civic Center Monday, January 19th.
