Colquitt County - A man is in jail tonight accused of shooting and killing his neighbor. But the shooter didn't run, nor did he call police. He just went to bed with a dead man in his home.

Colquitt County investigators say Hank Lacey, Junior left a dying man in his living room and then he went to bed and went to sleep.

Lacey is accused of shooting and killing a Hispanic man who lived next door. The victim rents from Lacey. Sheriff Al Whittington says, "He [victim] had two forms of identification on him, so we don't know exactly what his name is at this point in time."

Shots were fired around midnight Tuesday night. The Sheriff adds, "He was shot two times."

Jeremy Merritt knows both the victim and the accused shooter. He rents a building from Lacey. It sits right in front of the murder scene. Merritt says, "I don't think anybody expected this."

Merritt says the whole situation is out of character. He adds, "He's [Lacey] a good guy, always friendly and he mows everybody's yards. He's known for that."

Investigators say Lacey woke up Wednesday morning and told relatives what he did. He's now in the Colquitt County Jail facing murder charges.

The motive? Apparently, Lacey accused the victim of stealing a gun. The victim was shot in the chest and the side with a .22 caliber riffle.

Lacey is a murder suspect, but has not officially been charged. Investigators are following leads to determine the name of the victim.
