Blazers excited to have Walker

January 13, 2004

Valdosta- Since Dusty Bonner graduated two years ago, rumors of another division one quarterback transferring to Valdosta State have come and gone.

But the transfer of Americus' Fabian Walker from Florida State is real as Walker has enrolled in classes for the spring semester.

Valdosta State head coach Chris Hatcher says like Dusty Bonner, Fabian Walker will have to earn the Blazers starting quarterback job on the practice field.

And that will depend how quickly Walker can adjust to the Blazers offensive system which is the same offense he ran in high school under then Americus head coach Dan Ragle.

Hatcher said "Of course Fabian thrived in that system. He threw for over eight thousand yards and has a great background in passing the football and was a solid backup at Florida State and got the opportunity to play in some big games for those guys. We are looking forward to him coming and adding something to our football team. And basically he is going to have come in here and prove himself just like he would if he was to stay at Florida State this next season."

Fabian Walker will begin his bid to win the starting quarterback job at Valdosta State when the Blazers begin spring practice on March 5th.
