Perdue names South Georgians Regents

Atlanta , GA - Governor Sonny Perdue announced two appointments to the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (Board) - Doreen Poitevint of Bainbridge and Julie Hunt of Tifton.

Poitevint will hold the at-large seat vacated by Hilton Howell. Hunt is being reappointed to the Second Congressional District seat.

The Governor appoints members to the Board, who each serve seven years. The Board is comprised of 18 members; one from each of the state's congressional districts and five appointed at large. The Board oversees 34 educational institutions.

Julie Ewing Hunt is a native of Ashburn, and is a small businesswoman and former English teacher at Tift County High School. She previously served on the Georgia Economic Development Authority. She was also a former member of Governor Miller's Privatization Commission and former President of the Tift County Chamber of Commerce. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Valdosta State University . Hunt has two children and seven grandchildren. She is an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Tifton.

Doreen Stiles Poitevint of Bainbridge is presently the Chairman-Elect Executive Board Member for the Bainbridge College Foundation. She also serves on the board for the Decatur County Library and the Southwest Georgia Regional Library. Poitevint previously served as Public Education Chairman for the American Cancer Society and President of the Bainbridge Book Club. She received her undergraduate degree, a master's degree in Education, and an Education Specialist degree from the University of Georgia . She and her husband, Alec, have two children.
