Vienna-- The Dooly County Commission is penalized for turning in its tax digest late.
The Georgia Department of Revenue is fining the county $1,000 dollars for submitting the tax digest past the deadline.
County Administrator Steve Saunders says they had to process a high number of appeals on property tax reassessments last year, causing the delay.
The fine will be deducted from commission money the county receives for collecting the tax.
