MCLB front gate to close

January 9, 2004

Dougherty Co.-- The main gate at the Albany Marine Base will close Monday, as they rebuild it for security reasons.

Workers and visitors going to the Base for the next two weeks are asked to use three other gates. Visitors are asked to use the back gate on Johnson Road. It will be open 24 hours a day.

The truck gate on Fleming Road will be open during the day, and workers at the Maintenance Center should use it.

The Mock Road Gate will be open from 6:00 until 8:00 in the morning.

The main gate will be rebuilt, to enhance it's security. Military Police Lt. Neil Davies said "This installation is cats claw system. This is an anti-terrorism , force protection measure. Allow some stand off distance to allow for bomb threat mitigation. And it's also a non-lethal weapon tool that our sentry can use to mitigate any unforeseen circumstance should a vehicle attempt to run through his position."

The main gate is scheduled to re-open January 20th. Workers at the Albany Marine Base are asked to arrive early Monday, in case of traffic congestion.
