(Blakely-AP) -- The nation's largest peanut shelling company has announced plans to build an eight million dollar plant to supply the food industry with peanut flour, aromatic peanut oil and peanut extract.
Golden Peanut Company officials say their new 70,000-square-foot plant is expected to open in the fall. The plant will be located in Blakely, where Golden has been making its specialty products in a leased building.
Officials say Golden had been making peanut flour for more than ten years, but they've seen growing demand in recent years because of the popularity of nutritional bars and weight control bars.
