Lee County emergency workers help with blood shortage

January 8, 2004
Lee County- The Badges for Blood Drive was held at the Lee County Fire Station on U.S. Highway 19.

The competition between the law enforcers, fire fighters, and paramedics helps bring people in.

These workers know first-hand the importance of having enough blood to treat patients, something they say everyone needs to think about.

"Everybody can use it, it's not going to go to waist that's for sure," said Darin Roberts, a Lee County Paramedic. "It's no pain, so don't think it's going to come up here and hurt, it's only going to take 15-20 minutes of your time. And you may save somebody's life with a blood transfusion"

Blood donations have been up recently, but not enough to alleviate the blood shortage.
