Man killed after food left on stove

January 6, 2004

Moultrie - A Moultrie man is killed in a fire that started from food on a stove.

Twenty-seven-year-old James Jackson was found dead this morning in his Third Avenue home. Investigators say food left unattended caused a small fire in the kitchen, but the fire put itself out.

Jackson died of smoke inhalation. The home did have a smoke detector, but no batteries.
