Albany- An electrical fire was partly to blame for a New Year's Day Blackout in Albany that left thousands without power.

Even traffic lights on the northern and western sides of town were out. A current transformer failed and a small electrical fire broke out at a Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia substation.

That's one of the substations that provides power to many Water, Gas and Light customers. The power outage lasted about two hours.
