Lowndes County - The Christmas holiday period was more deadly than predicted. Georgia State Troopers hope that won't be the case during the New Year's weekend.

They expect more than 2800 wrecks on Georgia roads, with 704 injuries, and 16 fatalities. Troopers will have road blocks set up throughout South Georgia and warn motorists they'll be looking for impaired drivers and seat belt violations.

The holiday travel period starts at 6:00 Wednesday and ends Sunday at midnight.
