(Atlanta-AP) -- Uyl Joyner ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more in Albany State's rout of Fayetteville State 52 to 30 in the Pioneer Bowl today in Atlanta.
The game between the two historically black Division Two colleges was never close as Albany State (10-2) overwhelmed Fayetteville State (8-4) from the start, taking a 49 to 10 lead with 37 seconds left in the first half on Joyner's 40-yard pass to Zontavius Johnson His other scoring pass covered 48 yards to Alvin Jackson.
Joyner scored on runs of two and one yards. Joyner, voted the game's most valuable player, rushed for 45 yards and hit 15-of-25 throws for 255 yards for the Rams. Freshman Antonio Atkins had 20 carries for 87 yards and two touchdowns, runs of seven and four yards.
Fayetteville State got two of its touchdowns on defense, both by Lionel Watkins. Watkins scooped fumbles by Joyner and backup quarterback Hosea Harris to score on returns of 31 and 33 yards. Duane Taylor completed 17 of 39 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns for the Broncos.
