Albany-- Dougherty County commissioners have five o'clock shadows all day long. They grew beards to commemorate the county's 150th birthday.

Normally freshly shaven commissioners looked a little scruffy these last few weeks. A few of them grew beards to honor the founders of Dougherty County, who customarily had facial hair a century and a half ago.

"A lot of people have made sacrifices so we can be where we are today. But, I'm not keeping my beard. It's coming of today," said Commission Lamar Hudgins with a big laugh.

Commissioners also sang "Happy Birthday" to Dougherty County at their meeting. Dougherty County was carved out of Baker County and chartered by the state in 1853.
