Albany--Ray Knight will not return as a member of the Cincinnati Reds coaching staff next season. The team's web site says manager Dave Miley informed Knight of the news on Monday.
Knight, a native of Albany, served as the Reds bench and third base coach this past season and even managed a game after the team fired Bob Boone in late June.
Miley said the move was "an organization decision" and that the team wanted to go in a different direction. Knight was shocked with the decision especially since Miley had indicated that he would bring him back if he were named manager.
