Chamber Checks: The perfect gift

December 9, 2003

Albany - Perplexed about what to give someone for Christmas? How about a shopping spree?

The Albany Chamber of Commerce has gift certificates where the person can go door to door to hundreds of different stores. You can use a Chamber Check to buy just about anything that rhymes

You can buy a cat, you can buy a hat. You can even buy "Cat in the Hat". Albany Chamber of Commerce Communications Director, Rachelle Bitterman, says, "You can buy clothes, you can buy shoes and go out to a restaurant. You can do anything with it."

With an Albany Chamber Check, you can buy wood to build a deck or, at Albany Therapeutic, a massage for your neck. Owner, Vivian Davis, says, "Come in and cash it in and get a mini massage or a relaxation really good for the stress."

You can buy something for your ear [earrings], you can also buy a beer. The Chamber Check can last the whole year. Bitterman adds, "They are good for businesses in Albany."

You can buy tires for your car, or see if your golf game is up to par. The money won't go far. Bitterman explains, "Because you spend it right here and it's local."

So, this holiday look under your Christmas tree, a Chamber Check you may see. You can shop at more than 300 businesses for free.

You can buy a Chamber Check at the Chamber office, or on-line .
