TERRELL COUNTY - It's time to toss out those leftovers from Thanksgiving and make room for a popular holiday centerpiece -- the Christmas tree.
But, as you prepare for Christmas, there are some important safety precautions you should consider.
Keep the tree stand filled with water at all times.
Never put tree branches or needles in a fireplace.
Inspect holiday lights for frayed wires, bare spots or cracked sockets.
Do not overload electrical outlets.
Do not leave holiday lights on unattended and never put a lit candle near or on your Christmas tree.
Tammy Deese and her family cut their tree Sunday. She says that she already puts those safety tips into practice. "We've always had a real tree," she said. "So, one thing we make sure to do is keep it watered so that it doesn't dry out any more than it will."
Deese and her husband, Brian, have two children -- Colby and Sidney -- so they also pay extra attention to glass ornaments and such.
