Valdosta - Some special South Georgia athletes are going for the Olympic gold.
The Winter Games for Special Olympics Area 15 kicked off at Jac's Lanes Wednesday. More than 150 athletes from nine South Georgia counties battled it out for the title of bowling champion.
"It teaches them how to be independent, how to compete, and how to succeed," said Helen Orr, Games Coordinator.
The winners of Wednesday's games will go on to compete at the state winter games in Atlanta in January.
