(Columbus-AP) -- Uyl Joyner accounted for two touchdowns, leading Albany State to a 27-17 victory over Fort Valley State today.
Joyner opened the game with a four-yard run, posting a 7-nothing lead for the Golden Rams in the first.
He later closed the game with a 25-yard pass to Romeo Montez with 3:54 left in the game.
Albany State (9-2, 7-1, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) never gave up the lead.
Antonio Atkins scored two touchdowns on a four-yard run with 5:52 left in the second and again four minutes later on a 23-yard run for a 20-3 lead at the half.
The Wildcats (7-4, 5-3) dominated the third, scoring twice with Derrick Wimbush, who opened the third with a 67-yard touchdown run.
Another eleven-yard run by Wimbush at the end of the quarter put Fort Valley State within three, but Montez's fourth-quarter touchdown kept the Rams out of reach.
Albany State's win combined with Kentucky State's 16-14 loss at Tuskegee gives the Golden Rams their first Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title since 1997.
