(Elon, North Carolina-AP) -- Chaz Williams rushed for three touchdowns and Tariq Muhammad returned an interception 36 yards for another score to lead Georgia Southern to a 37-13 victory over Elon today.
Jermaine Austin had 25 carries for 136 yards for the Eagles (7-4, 5-3 Southern Conference), who outgained the Phoenix 440-to-285.
Kevin Anderson backed Austin with 74 yards on the ground.
Rashaud Palmer had 140 rushing yards on 19 carries for Elon (2-10, 1-7).
His 55-yard touchdown run in the first quarter tied the game at 7-to-7.
Williams took over from there for Georgia Southern.
He had one-yard touchdown runs in each of the final three quarters as the Eagles built a 37-7 lead.
Muhammad capped off the run by returning Anthony Crews' pass for a score.
Crews completed 10-22 passes for 137 yards. His 36-yard touchdown pass to Dan Brooks with 14 seconds remaining rounded out the scoring.
