Undated-Two of the best high school pitchers in south Georgia have finalized their plans to play at the collegiate level.
Lee County pitcher/infielder Jason Weaver signed a scholarship this morning with Columbus State University.
Weaver, who was 6-2 with 2.88 earned run average as a junior, will work off the mound for the Cougars who won the 2002 NCAA Division II title led by former Lee County standout Jason Burdette.
Over in Tifton, Tift County High standout Matt Shurley signed with Georgia Southern University. Shurley is a two-time all-region performer and has a 14-5 career record for the Blue Devils.
In his junior season, Matt recorded 85 strikeouts in 68 innings and his earned run average was 1.96.
Matt also pitched Vienna Post 202 to the state American Legion baseball title this summer.
