Albany-- Perhaps you remember him as Captain Mercury. Grady Shadburn, a well-known, much-loved WALB-TV personality, has died.

Almost from the beginning of Albany television, Grady Shadburn was there. From his widely popular television show Captain Mercury, to his afternoon "Lazy A" Ranch party, where he starred as Ringo the cowboy, Shadburn was widely known and admired.

The Camilla High School graduate worked at WMLT radio station in Dublin until he joined the Army in 1954. After his discharge in 1957, he attended the University of Georgia.

Grady arrived at WALB in its infant days. The station went on the air in 1954, Grady was hired April 4, 1958. Grady Shadburn retired in 1997.

But for 40 years, he was the face of WALB-TV. A face we'll always remember. Grady Shadburn was 71.

The Shadburn family will be available for visitation Friday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 at Matthews Funeral Home on Gillionville Road. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM Saturday at Central Baptist Church on Dawson Road.

The family will hold a private burial of the ashes.
