Albany -- Another undercover sting of Dougherty County stores to check for selling alcohol to underage buyers was held last Thursday and Friday. Nearly forty percent of the stores checked sold booze to officers under 21-years-old.

These are some of the alcoholic drinks that were purchased by undercover sheriff's deputies during the operation. Sixty-two stores were checked, 27 sold alcohol to underage buyers. Nine of the stores were caught for the second time in one year.

One clerk sold to the undercover officers for the third time. District Attorney Ken Hodges says they are disappointed so many stores continue to sell to underage buyers. " We will be seeking harsher penalties for those individuals and stores. I'm certain the city and the county will start alcohol license reviews of these repeat offenders."

Sheriff Jamil Saba said "We don't know if they are just trying to make more money, or if they are just not looking at the I.D. cards right. But they need to pay attention because we don't any of these kids to get hurt. We don't want anyone to get hurt."

 Earlier this year the Albany City Commission suspended store's license to sell alcohol for seven days after being caught for the second time.

You wonder what they do with the beer, wine, and malt liquor gathered in the stings. Right after the news conference Albany Dougherty Drug Unit officers poured it down the drain.
