Blazers bounce back with shutout

November 8, 2003

Russellville, Ak- One week after their 35 game regular season winning streak was snapped, 5th ranked Valdosta State rebounds with a 30-0 win at Arkansas Tech.

The Blazers defense held the Wonder Boys to 80 yards of total offense, Arkansas Tech's second lowest offensive output in school history, and scored the games first touchdown when linebacker Dee Williford returned a fumnble 36 yards for a touchdown.

A second Arkansas Tech fumble led to the Blazers second touchdown scored by quarterback Buster Faulkner on a five yard run.

Sophomore Barrett Wilkes led the Blazers to their third touchdown by capping a six play, 65 yard drive with a 12 yard touchdown pass to Andre Zellner.

Will Rhody kicked three field goals, including a 43 yarder, as Valdosta State is now 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the Gulf South Conference.

The Blazers end the season next Saturday in Valdosta against West Georgia in the Peach Basket Classic where a VSU win would likely give them a home game in the first round of the D-II playoffs since Catawba, seeded second in the latest South region poll, lost to Carson-Newman.
