Tift County--Crews are still working to repair damage caused by a warehouse fire in Tifton. A fire broke out Tuesday at the Chickasha Cotton Seed Plant just south of downtown Tifton. Fifty employees got out safely. But,hundreds of thousands of pounds of cotton seed were destroyed. Fire fighters say bringing the blaze under control was even more difficult because of the dense cotton seed. "You get pockets of resistance scattered throughout it. It gives you a tunnel affect and it's very difficult to put the smoldering parts out ," said Tift fire department captain, Wendall Hall. Firefighters are not sure how the fire started but say it may have been caused by the gin's conveyer belt.
