Albany - A Federal Judge blocked the Albany elections until new voting lines can be drawn. A federal hearing will be held Wednesday to discuss the 3 redistricting plans already on the table and any new plans.
The city will also ask Judge Louis Sands to set the election the same day as the presidential primary on March 2nd.
"All the commissioners agree that holding the election in March will increase voter turn-out. In Tuesday's executive session, several Commissioners said they now plan to submit their own voting maps," said Mayor Tommy Coleman.
The ACLU, Mayoral candidate Dr. Willie Adams, and Commission candidate Joann Pope have already submitted redistricting plans. It will be up to Judge Sands to decide on the voting map and the date of the election.
