(Valdosta-AP) -- DeMarcus Blount ran for 94 yards and two second half touchdowns to lead North Alabama, ranked third nationally in NCAA Division Two, to a 17 to 10 victory over top-ranked Valdosta State in a battle of unbeaten teams today.
The setback ended Valdosta State's 35-game regular season winning streak and also ended the Blazers string of 29 consecutive Gulf South Conference victories. Trailing three-zero at halftime, North Alabama (9-0, 7-0) tied it on Travis Johnston's 22-yard field goal early in the third, then went in front on Blount's 48 yard run later in the third.
The Blazers (8-1, 6-1), who got a 48-yard field goal from Will Rhody two minutes before halftime, tied the game at ten, scoring on a fake field goal with Tyran Robinson scampering eight yards with 13:06 to play. The Lions needed only six plays to go 68 yards and end the scoring on Blount's nine-yard run with 9:50 remaining.
After the Blazers were unable to move, North Alabama consumed the final 6:10, driving 68 yards to the Valdosta State one when time expired.
