Juvenile diabetes cases on the rise

November 1, 2003

Albany- US 19 Cooperative Resources held a juvenile diabetes camp and workshop Saturday.

Doctors say they've seen a 50% increase in the number of children with juvenile diabetes in the last five years.

"In many communities and certainly here in the minority community there's a sense that diabetes has inevitable, terrible consequences and it's not true. We can treat and take really good care of people with diabetes and prevent those complications from ever happening," says pediatric endocrinologist, Dr. Larry Deeb.

According to the American Diabetes Association, nearly 15,000 American children are diagnosed with type-1 or juvenile diabetes every year.
