Albany- Scholar and author Cornel West was the keynote speaker at the homecoming address during the Albany State convocation.

He encouraged students to remember the history of the university and use it to help them strive for excellence.

"We come to celebrate 100 years of struggle at this grand institution cutting against the grain, holding their heads up high with grace and dignity. To see the young people here keeping this tradition alive cannot but inspire us, it inspires me," says West.

West says the centennial celebration at Albany State is a beacon of light and hope for the future of historically black colleges and universities.
