Albany -- Senator Zell Miller says he will support President Bush in his re-election campaign. The chairman of the Georgia Republican Party says that shows the growing strength of the G.O.P. in the Peach State.

Miller is the first Senate Democrat to endorse the Republican President.

State Republican Party Chair, Alec Poitevint of Bainbridge, says more Georgians believe in the issues that G.O.P. candidates support. "They are voting in the same manner that they talk at home. What they are voting is the values that people want, and they can trust them. In this case, Senator Miller trusts our President to do what needs to be done."

Poitevint pointed out that many Georgia Republican officials are from rural parts of the state. He says that is fueling the grass roots growth of Republicans in Georgia.
