$250,000 lottery ticket sold in SWGA

October 29, 2003

Albany - What would you do with $250,000? A woman in south Georgia now has to make that tough, but exciting decision. She bought a winning scratch off lottery ticket Wednesday morning in Albany.

A simple scratch could make you rich. Lottery player, Derrick Teemer, says, "Trying to win some money off these scratch off." Teemer says he'll keep on scratching. He laughs, "I've got kids to spoil."

A mystery woman came into the Mini Mart on Stuart Avenue in Albany. Co-owner, Dhara Patel, says, "I'm so happy for her for someone to win here."

The winner bought one $10.00 Merry Money scratch off. Needless to say, the ticket made her very merry. She won $250,000. Teemer says, "If I get halfway lucky, I'll be satisfied."

Employees didn't catch the winner's name, but did catch the woman's excitement. Patel adds, "She's happy, she don't believe that."

The winning ticket was a new holiday scratch off that just arrived Tuesday. She won on the second ticket on the first roll. The mystery winner scratched off the number 25 in the bow, behind the ornament in the Christmas tree she found another 25. Looks like she'll have a Merry Christmas on December 25th.

As for Teemer, he says, "My luck don't look too good." We watched him scratch off five holiday one dollar tickets and still no luck. He laughs, "You know they say if you don't play you won't win." But, his positive outlook may be a start to a lucky life.

Employees at Mini Mart say this was the biggest winner they've ever had. Lottery officials say the winner has to go to Atlanta to claim her prize.
