Wayne County moves out of 1-AAAA

October 28, 2003

(Atlanta-AP) -- The Georgia High School Association's state executive committee approved five appeals today and finalized region alignments for the next two school years, starting next fall.

Two regions, 2-AAAA and 3-AAAA, will have new looks as the result of the appeals, while Region 1-AAAAwas left as only a five-team region for the next two academic years.

That is because Wayne County asked for and received a transfer to region 2-AAAA.

While Wayne County is moving into that region, four schools- Westside-Macon, Warner Robins, Northside-Warner Robins and Central Macon- had their appeals granted to move from 2-AAAA to 3-AAAA.

The loss of Wayne County is good news to Americus, Bainbridge, Lee County and Thomas County Central fans who were facing a three to four bus rides to Jesup for high school events.

Ware County is the fifth member of region 1-AAAA.
