Albany - 11 Albany firefighters receive the Medal of Valor for saving lives and property. City leaders honored them Tuesday night.

Captain Paul Haywood spotted a fire on the roof of Phoebe Putney and prevented major damage. Another crew lead by Firefighter of the Year Greg Maze saved two woman from a burning apartment in June. Three other firefighters saved the life of business owner Cleve Wester by using the defibrillator to restart his heart after he suffered a heart attack in February.

"We always give %100 percent, and it's nice to be honored and appreciated," said Lt. Gregory Drummer, AFD.

Each firefighter received a medal of valor and a standing ovation from the crowd.
