ALBANY--Horses and dogs teamed up with police to help kick off red ribbon week at Lamar Reese Elementary School. Students watched as the Albany Police Department showed the roles their K-9 unit and mounted officers play.

The event demonstrated how the men and women in blue team with their four-footed partners to fight crime. Mike Reynolds, a K-9 unit officer claims "If you have drugs in a vehicle and you have a lot of human oder and you have air fresheners, and you have cologne, well Justice can detect all of that but he can narrow it down to just one specific odor and that can assists us in fighting the drug war out here on the streets."

The dogs are trained to detect a variety of drugs.
