Eagles fall short against Bulldogs

October 25, 2003

(Statesboro-AP) -- Nehemiah Broughton ran for 127 yards and two touchdowns, including the game winner with 1:09 to play, to give The Citadel a 28-to-24 victory over Georgia Southern today.

The Southern Conference triumph -- the Bulldogs' fourth straight, kept them on the heels of Wofford in the conference race. The Citadel is now 5 and 3, 4 and 1, and they will host the league leaders next week.

Southern, winners of the last six conference crowns, fell to 4 and 4, 2 and 3. The Citadel led 21-nothing before Southern rallied and appeared on the way to victory when it got the football back, leading 24-to-21 with 7:46 to play.

Southern reeled off three first downs before Anthony Roberts recovered Brandon Andrews' fumble at The Citadel 48. Broughton scored on a one-yard run nine plays later with 1:09 left in the game.
