Albany - Dougherty County school students pledge to live "drug free". The opening ceremony for national red ribbon week was held on the front steps of the school Administration Building.

Red ribbon week emphasizes a community fight against drugs. About 100 students pledged they would live their life drug free, so they can reach their dreams.

Students said "we will support Red Ribbon Week, by taking a stand against alcohol and drug abuse."

Red Ribbon week started in 1988, as a remembrance for a Drug Enforcement Agent killed by drug smugglers.

Dougherty County schools will have events all week to teach the students to avoid drugs.
