Tift County-- A man involved in the theft of heavy equipment from three counties is behind bars. Jerry Smith of Berrien County is a suspect in the theft of two tractors from farmers in Colquitt County.

Smith is also charged with stealing a mower and two trailers in Berrien County. Police say Smith was using some of the stolen equipment in Tift County in connection with a business his brother owns.

"His brother owns a landscaping company, and he works for his brothers," said Jason Thomson of Colquitt County Investigations. "He stole the equipment to do some work for, working on the landscaping business. He's wanted in three other counties? That's right, Tift County Berrien county has charges on him as well as us."

Smith is being held in the Tift County jail. There is no word yet if Smith's brother knew the equipment was stolen, or if he will face any charges.
