Albany- The countdown to tipoff has started in Albany with high school basketball teams hitting the court this week for the first practices of the season.
The Westover High Patriots cannot wait to start their season after last spring's surprising loss to Hart County in the AAA semifinals.
It was a tough loss for a Westover program that has won six triple-A state titles since 1990.
With almost the entire team returning, the Patriots expect to make it back to Macon this March where the bitter taste of last season maybe the motivation Westover needs to win a seventh state title.
Westover coach Dallis Smith said "My first year when we had lost nine seniors we were still talking about trying to make the state playoffs and being at Westover that is our tradition is trying to get there and wanting to win at all."
Senior guard Montavious Waters said "We know we cannot take anybody for granted even though we have got our whole team back we still have to play hard night in and night out."
Westover will open their season on November 25th against Albany High at the Albany Civic Center where all four Dougherty County schools will play that night.
